LCHS Goes to the Dominican Republic 2018-2019

We made it to NYC with minimal turbulence! Everyone is off getting a bite to eat. See y'all soon!

And just like that, we are off! We said our final goodbyes this morning after a glorious farewell breakfast. We will keep you posted on our journey home, but for now, we are on our way to Santiago and then to New York. See you all soon!

This afternoon was a calm, relaxing one. We simply spent our time with the kids playing. And yes, the kids loved the bikes!! It was a lovely way to spend our final evening with the kids. Tonight we will do our final group reflection and pack up for our travel day tomorrow. I am sure there will be tears when we have to say goodbye :-( As always, thank you for all the love and support. Today we got to go grocery shopping! For those who do not know, we had the goal of raising $4,000 to cover the cost of food for the 48 kids for one month... And we raised $6,000!!! With that we were also able to cover the cost of diapers for a month. This is amazing.  Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!!! I cannot thank you enough. The kids were each given a portion of the shopping list to track down. It was a great Spanish lesson At the end of our shopping trip, we spotted a few tricycles and bicycles that would be appropriate for some of the more mobile residents, so our kids all chipped in to buy them... I'm so impressed! This is a very generous group :-) Stay tuned later for pictures of when we give them out!

This afternoon we spent relaxing at the beach... It was beautiful! Sunny skies, light breeze, and good company. Tonight we went out to eat. We had fried fish, fried chicken, plantains, rice, and salad. And as always, some delicious fruit juices! Afterwards we took a walk on the beach and are now headed back. Everyone seems ready for a good night's sleep before our last full day!

This morning we went up the teleférico (cable car) to see Puerto Plata from up the mountain. We got lucky because there was a clear sky so we had quite the view! Some kiddos opted to get a group photo made... Looks like Declan is happy to be falling out! Off to the beach we go!
