We made it to the Dominican Republic! After some much needed plane naps, everyone seems energetic and excited to be here. In 2 short hours we will finally be at Hogar Immanuel!
Happy New Year!!! This morning it was time to go across the street and clean up the local park. A lot of the neighborhood kids play in the park but unfortunately it tends to get overrun with trash. Afterwards, we touched up some paint to give it that finishing touch. A lot of the neighborhood kids came out and helped too! Now it's time for lunch!
Today we got to go grocery shopping! For those who do not know, we had the goal of raising $4,000 to cover the cost of food for the 48 kids for one month... And we raised $6,000!!! With that we were also able to cover the cost of diapers for a month. This is amazing. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!!! I cannot thank you enough. The kids were each given a portion of the shopping list to track down. It was a great Spanish lesson At the end of our shopping trip, we spotted a few tricycles and bicycles that would be appropriate for some of the more mobile residents, so our kids all chipped in to buy them... I'm so impressed! This is a very generous group :-) Stay tuned later for pictures of when we give them out!
After our post fried chicken nap, we got back to work! Some groups helped paint, while others did dishes or continued weeding. And of course, more fun time with the kids! Since tonight is New Year's Eve, we are planning to stay up and ring in the new year with games and lots of snacks! Since we are an hour ahead, we will get to 2019 before you! Happy New Year!
