LCHS Goes to the Dominican Republic 2018-2019

This afternoon after we finished up our work we ended up having a pickup game of baseball with some of the neighborhood kids. Ms. Chandler was in her glory! Everyone is looking forward to our day off tomorrow... time for the beach!! Thanks for all the messages... keep them coming!

This morning the kiddos got to work on repairing one of the entranceways to the home. They got to shovel, rake, and a lucky few got to use the pickax! At the same time groups of two have been visiting the physical therapy room to see what goes on there. Everyone will get to have the chance to go before we leave. After this sweaty morning I am sure our kids will scarf down their lunch!

Today was a sweaty afternoon! We put our work gloves to use to weed so that grass can be planted later on. It was hot in the afternoon sun, but we got it done! After weeding, we went for a walk to see the neighborhood. We got to see lots of animals like horses, cows, pigs, and dogs. After that we hung out with the residents and helped serve dinner to them. Sorry, I'm a little short on pictures of this since I was spending some quality time with my Jorge! :-) Everyone is ready for an early bedtime tonight (myself included). Happy New Year!!! This morning it was time to go across the street and clean up the local park. A lot of the neighborhood kids play in the park but unfortunately it tends to get overrun with trash. Afterwards, we touched up some paint to give it that finishing touch. A lot of the neighborhood kids came out and helped too! Now it's time for lunch!

After our post fried chicken nap, we got back to work! Some groups helped paint, while others did dishes or continued weeding. And of course, more fun time with the kids! Since tonight is New Year's Eve, we are planning to stay up and ring in the new year with games and lots of snacks! Since we are an hour ahead, we will get to 2019 before you! Happy New Year!

UPDATE: IT WAS FRIED CHICKEN. MY NOSE WAS CORRECT!

We had a calm morning today. We started off with singing to the kids and then divided up to conquer various tasks here at Hogar Immanuel. Some groups helped clean while others helped repair the clotheslines and remove weeds. And of course, play with some kids! We will continue to garden this afternoon after lunch (it smells like fried chicken is on the menu!!). Also, Mrs. Bazz, Emi (and all of us!) hope you had a great birthday yesterday!
